The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
All around the ground.

The leaves on the trees tumble down,
Tumble down.
Tumble down
The leaves on the trees tumble down,
Down to the ground.

Jump right in,
Jump right in!
We’ll rake the leaves in a pile and jump right in!
All around the town.

Songs, Rhymes & Fingerplays

Movement Rhyme: If I Were a Leaf
If I were a leaf . . .
I’d jump down from my tree,
[jump]
I’d dance in the wind,
[dance]
I’d fly in the breeze.
[pretend to fly]
I’d change bright colors,
I’d spin in the air,
[spin]
Then I’d land on the ground . . .
[sit down]
I just don’t know where!
[shrug shoulders]

Movement Rhyme: Apple Tree
Way up high in the apple tree
Two little apples did I see
So I shook that tree as hard as I could
Down came the apples
Mmm, they’re good!

Flannelboard Rhyme: Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate (Five fingers up)
The first one said “Oh my it’s getting Late” (Hands on cheeks)
The second one said “There’s a chill in the air” (arms around self)
The third one said “But we don’t care” (swing pointer finger up and down)
The fourth one said “We’re ready for some fun!” (hand in air)
The fifth one said “Let’s run, run, run!” (running motion)
So woooo went the wind, and out went the lights,
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Puppet Rhyme: Five Little Apples
Five little apples fallen from a tree
No one was looking
So who came to eat?
A rabbit! Munch, munch, munch!
(Mouse, bird, horse, bat)
Now the tree is bare
There are no more apples there
But when next fall comes around
Guess who’ll be there!
The rabbit, the mouse, the bird, the horse, and the bat!

Scarf Song: The Leaves on the Trees
Tune: The Wheels on the Bus
The leaves of the trees turn orange and red
orange and red, orange and red
The leaves of the trees turn orange and red
All through the town.

The leaves of the trees come tumbling down
tumbling down, tumbling down
The leaves of the trees come tumbling down
All through the town.

The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
Swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish,
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
All through the town.

Rest them now upon your hips,
Slowly bend your knees.
Up again and stand up tall,
Put your right foot out;
Shake your fingers.
Nod your head
and twist yourself about.

Fingerplay: Touch

Touch your nose, touch your chin,
That’s the way this game begins.
Touch your head, touch your knees,
Now pretend you’re going to sneeze:
Ahh-Choo!

Movement Rhyme: Wiggle

I can wiggle my fingers
I can wiggle my toes
I can wiggle my shoulders
I can wiggle my nose.
No all my wiggles are out of me
(wiggle whole body)
And I can sit as quiet as can be.

Rhyme: Snowflakes

Snowflakes, snowflakes, dance around.
(Dance fingers)
Snowflakes, snowflakes, touch the ground.
(Touch floor)
Snowflakes, snowflakes, in the air,
(flutter fingers upward)
Snowflakes, snowflakes, everywhere.
(Flutter fingers outward)

Jump up
Turn around
clap your hands
Stomp the ground

Slow, fast, Eyes closed, Arms up, holding breath

Action Rhyme

Let your hands go clap,
(clap)
Let your fingers go snap,
(snap)
Let your lips go up and down,

The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.

Little Ghosts
Little ghosts, little ghosts,
Flying through the air.
Little ghosts, little ghosts,
Tickling my hair.
Little ghosts, little ghosts,
Flying down low.
Little ghosts, little ghosts,
Tickling my toe.
Little ghosts, little ghosts,
Circling all around.
Little ghosts, little ghosts,
Please sit down.

Movement Rhyme: Run in Place
Run in place,
Turn around,
Flap your arms,
Now sit right down.
Put your finger on your nose,
And wiggle it around.
Put your finger on your lips,
And make this sound, “Shh.”

The Itsy Bitsy Spider / The Roly Poly Pumpkin
The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again

(Variation)

Oh, the roly-poly pumpkin Went rolling down the hill.
Once it started rolling It couldn’t keep still.
It rolled and rolled Until it bumped into a rock.
Then the roly-poly pumpkin Rolled to a stop.

Five Fall Leaves Feltboard (Fingerplay, no tune)
(Can also be done using your five fingers as the leaves)
Five fall leaves, five and no more.
The caterpillar ate one, now there are 4.
Four fall leaves, that’s easy to see.
Along came a rainstorm, now there are 3.
Three fall leaves, nothing much to do.
A big wind, now there are 2.
Two leaves, that’s not much fun.
I glued one on my paper
Now there is 1.
Hang on pretty red leaf! Your branches won’t break.
You’re one less leaf for me to rake!

All around the ground.
