Rhyme

The Ants Go Marching Two by Two

The ants came marching two by two, hurrah! hurrah!
The ants came marching two by two, hurrah! hurrah!
The ants came marching two by two
The little one stopped to tie his shoe.
They all go marching down in the ground and out of the rain,
Boom, Boom, Boom.

The ants came marching three by three…
The little one stopped to climb a tree.

The ants came marching four by four…
The little one stopped to shut the door….

The ants came marching five by five…
The little one stopped to take a dive….

… The ants came marching ten by ten
The little one stopped to say THE END!

Thanks For Visiting! Hope to see you all next week.

Songs, Rhymes & Fingerplays

Fingerplay: Here is the Beehive
Here is the beehive. Where are the bees? (Hold up fist.)
Hidden away where nobody sees. (Shield fist with other hand, as if hiding it.)
Watch and you’ll see them come out of the hive, (Bend down to look closely at fist.)
One, two, three, four, five. (Hold up fingers, one at a time.)
Bzzzzz . . . they’re alive! (Move arms out and wiggle fingers.)

Song: The Ladybug Has Spots (with flannelboard)

Change number of spots on the flannel ladybug each time you sing the song.

The ladybug has spots,
The ladybug has spots.
Can you count the number of
This ladybug’s spots?

Movement Activity: Caterpillar Crawl
Have children sit in a circle and use their fingers to make their caterpillars crawl on various parts of their body as you call out commands. (“Caterpillar crawl on your head! Caterpillar crawl on your nose.”) Whenever you say “Butterflies fly!” the children stand up and fly around the circle once and sit back down at their places.

Fingerplay: Two Little Dragonflies
Use hands to represent the dragonflies flying in different directions.

Two little dragonflies
Both in flight.
They zoom left
And then zoom right.
They zoom up
And they zoom down,
But for our story they sit down!
Shhhhhh . . . .

Song: If You’re a Bug and You Know It
If you’re a bee and you know it buzz like this: Buzz! Buzz!
If you’re a bee and you know it buzz like this: Buzz! Buzz!
If you’re bee and you know it and you really want to show it,
If you’re a bee and you know it buzz like this: Buzz! Buzz!
If you’re a grasshopper and you know it hop like this: Hop! Hop!
If you’re a butterfly and you know it flap your wings.
If you’re a caterpillar and you know it move really slow.
If you’re at storytime and you know it sit back down.

Song: Insects All Around

Lady bugs and butterflies,

Teeny, tiny little ants,
Crawling up and down the plants
Many insects can be found
In the sky and on the ground.

Rhyme: I Saw a Little LadyBug

I saw a little lady bug flying in the air,
But when I tried to catch her, two bugs were there.

Two little lady bugs flew up in a tree.
I tiptoed very quietly, and then I saw three.

Three little lady bugs–I looked for one more.
I saw one sitting on the ground, that made four.

Four little lady bugs–another one arrived.
I saw her sitting on a flower, and that made five.

Five little lady bugs, all red and black–
I clapped my hands and shouted, and they all flew back!

Rhyme: Ten Little Grasshoppers

One Little, two little, three little grasshoppers,
Four little, five little, six little grasshoppers,
Seven little, eight little, nine little grasshoppers,
Ten grasshoppers in my yard.

Grasshoppers, grasshoppers,
Hopping all around me.
Grasshoppers, grasshoppers,
Hopping all around me.
Grasshoppers, grasshoppers,
Hopping all around me.
Ten grasshoppers in my yard.

Ten Little, nine little, eight little grasshoppers,
Seven little, six little, five little grasshoppers,
Four little, three little, two little grasshoppers,
One grasshopper in my yard.

Grasshopper, grasshopper,
Hopping all around me.
Grasshopper, grasshopper,
Hopping all around me.
Grasshopper, grasshopper,
Hopping all around me.
One grasshopper in my yard.
