Movement Activity: Lights Out
Where are my little fingers? (Wiggle fingers)
Snap! Snap! Snap! (Snap fingers)
Don’t they know it is time for their nap? (Hold hands out on each side as if asking a question)
No more wiggling and dancing about! (Wiggle fingers and dance them on arm)
Please settle down!
It’s “lights out!” (Reach up and flick a pretend switch, make click sound)
Shhhhh . . . (Put finger to lips and make Shhhhhh sound)

Where are my little toes?
Tap! Tap! Tap! (Tap toes on floor)
Don’t they know it is time for their nap?
No more dancing and prancing about! (Dance around in place)
Please settle down!
It’s “lights out!”
Shhhhh . . .

Where are my little eyes?
Bat! Bat! Bat! (Flutter eyelids up and down)
Don’t they know it is time for their nap?
No more winking and blinking about! (Wink eyes)
Please settle down!
It’s “lights out!”
Shhhhh . . .

Movement Activity: Shoes
I went to bed and tried to go to sleep,
But somebody put running shoes on my feet! (run in place)

Repeat with a variety of different shoes and appropriate actions (ballet, tap, basketball, heavy, sticky, skates, quiet)

Song: Before I Go to Bed
(Tune: Wheels on the Bus)
Before I go to bed I take a bath,
Take a bath, take a bath
Before I go to bed I take a bath,
Then I say “Goodnight.”

Brush my teeth
Get a drink
Read a book
Get a kiss

Book
How Do Dinosaur’s Say Goodnight? by Jane Yolen
Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night? by Brianna Caplan Sayres

Music
Dream Big by Roger Day
Victor Vito by Laurie Berkner

Songs, Rhymes & Fingerplays

Open, Shut Them
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Give a little clap.
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Lay them in your lap.
Creep them, creep them up to your chin.
Open your mouth, but do not let them in!
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Lay them in your lap.

Dinosaur Doesn’t/ Does
Dinosaur doesn’t stomp his feet at bedtime.
…pout and cry at bedtime.
…shout “I want one more book!”
…roar!
…swing his neck from side to side.
…thrash his tail side to side.

Dinosaur does give a big hug at bedtime.
…give a big kiss at bedtime.
…say goodnight.
…lie down quietly and fall fast asleep!

Sometimes
Sometimes my hands are at my side
Hold hands at side
Then behind my back they hide
Put hands behind back
Sometimes I wiggle my fingers so
Wiggle your fingers
Shake them fast, shake them slow
Shake fingers fast and slow
Sometimes my hands go clap, clap, clap
Clap hands
Then I rest them in my lap
Rest hands in lap
Now they’re quiet as can be.
Because it’s listening time, you see.

5 little monkeys jumping on the bed
5 little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Momma called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

4 little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Momma called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

3 little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Momma called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

2 little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Momma called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

1 little monkey jumping on the bed
He fell off and bumped his head
So Momma called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

No little monkeys jumping on the bed
None fell off and bumped his head
So Momma called the doctor and the doctor said
Put those monkeys back in bed!
