The Bear

Here is a cave, (make a fist)
Inside is a bear. (put a thumb inside fist)
Now he comes out
To get some fresh air. (pop out thumb)

He stays out all summer
In sunshine and heat.
He hunts in the forest
For berries to eat. (move thumb in circle)

When snow starts to fall,
He hurries inside
His warm little cave,
And there he will hide. (put thumb back inside fist)

Snow covers the cave
Like a fluffy white rug.
Inside the bear sleeps
All cozy and snug. (cover fist with other hand)

Song:Hibernation
Sung to: “Alouette”

Hibernation.  Time for Hibernation.
Hibernation.  Time to go to sleep.

In the winter where’s the bear?
Sleeping in its log or lair.
Where’s the bear?  Log or lair.  OH!

In the winter where’s the snake?
In the mud beneath the lake.
Where’s the snake? Mud or lake. OH!

In the winter where’s the frog?
Sleeping by a pond or log.
Where’s the frog? Pond or log. OH!

In the winter where’s the bat?
In a cave is where its at.
Where’s the bat? In a cave. OH!

Clap and Sing Hello! (tune: Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at storytime,
We clap and sing hello!

We wave and sing hello
We wave and sing hello,
With our friends at storytime,
We wave and sing hello!

We stomp and sing hello,
We stomp and sing hello,
With our friends at storytime,
We wave and sing hello!

Sometimes
Sometimes my hands are at my side
Hold hands at side
Then behind my back they hide
Put hands behind back
Sometimes I wiggle my fingers so
Wiggle your fingers
Shake them fast, shake them slow
Shake fingers fast and slow
Sometimes my hands go clap, clap, clap
Clap hands
Then I rest them in my lap
Rest hands in lap
Now they’re quiet as can be.
Because it’s listening time, you see.

Hurry Squirrels (tune: Twinkle, Twinkle)
Hurry squirrels and don’t be slow,
Winter’s coming, don’t you know?
Scamper, scamper all around.
Bury treasures in the ground.
Hurry squirrels and don’t be slow,
Winter’s  coming, don’t you know?

Winter is Cold…
Winter is cold (Hug yourself and shiver)
There is snow in the sky (Flutter fingers above your head)
The squirrel gathers nuts (Pretend to gather nuts)
And the wild geese fly (Flap arms)
The fluffy red fox (Cup hands over head to form ears)
Has his fur to keep warm (Stroke arms as if stroking fur)
The bear’s in her cave (Form a cave shape with your arms)
Sleeping all through the storm (Fold hands under cheek and pretend to sleep)

Are You Sleeping?
Are you sleeping, are you sleeping,
Big brown bear, big brown bear?
Time for hibernation.
What is your location?
In a log, in a log.

Are you sleeping, are you sleeping,
Hanging bat, hanging bat?
Time for hibernation.
What is your location?
In a cave, in a cave.

Are you sleeping, are you sleeping,
Garter snake, garter snake?
Time for hibernation.
What is your location?
In the mud, in the mud.

Are you sleeping, are you sleeping,
Little green frog, little green frog?
Time for hibernation.
What is your location?
In a pond, in a pond.

Are you sleeping, are you sleeping,
Meadow mouse, meadow mouse?
Time for hibernation.
What is your location?
In a field, in a field.

Are you sleeping, are you sleeping,
Turtle friend, turtle friend?
Time for hibernation.
What is your location?
In the stream, in the stream!

Open Shut Them
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Give a little clap.
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Lay them in your lap.
Creep them, creep them up to your chin.
Open your mouth, but do not let them in!
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Lay them in your lap.

If You’re Happy and You Know It
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands Clap! Clap!
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands Clap! Clap!
If you’re happy and you know it, and you really want to show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands Clap! Clap

Stomp your feet
Blink your eyes
Wave goodbye!

Squeeze him very tight
Hold him high
Help him fly
Then hug with all your might

Song: Bears
(tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb)
Grizzly bears are big and brown,
Big and brown, big and brown.
Grizzly bears are big and brown,
And live in the woods.

Polar bears are soft and white,
Soft and white, soft and white.
Polar bears are soft and white,
And live where it is cold.

Panda bears are black and white,
Black and white, black and white.
Panda bears are black and white,
And live in the jungle.

Teddy bears are just my size,
Just my size, just my size.
Teddy bears are just my size,
To cuddle with at night.

Movement Rhyme: Teddy Bear Teddy Bear
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, dance on your toes.
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, touch your nose.

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, slap your knees.
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, sit down please.

Movement Song: If You’re a Bear and You Know It
If you’re a panda bear and you know it, clap your paws.
If you’re a panda bear and you know it, clap your paws.
If you’re a panda bear and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
If you’re a panda bear and you know it, clap your paws.

If you’re a polar bear and you know it, show your teeth…
If you’re a grizzly bear and you know it, growl real loud…
