Books

Balance the Birds by Susie Ghahremani
How to Two by David Soman

Recorded Music
“Jumping and Counting” by Jim Gill

Felt Story
Shape Story: Various shapes “Plop!” right out of the sky and start to form a picture. What the picture will be is part of the mystery.

Songs, Rhymes & Fingerplays

Welcome Song
(We sing this song using ASL sign language)
Hello friends, hello friends, hello friends,
It’s time, to say, hello.

Shirt Song
Every child is invited to come up and choose a felt shirt to put on our felt board. While they do this, we will sing this song:

[Name] has a [color] shirt, a [color] shirt, a [color] shirt,
[name] has a [color] shirt, and she’s/he’s/they’re here today!

Scarf Song
We repeat the song a couple of times. First using the ASL sign for butterfly, then pretending the scarves are our butterflies

Flutter, flutter butterfly, flying in the morning sky
Watch it fly from high to low
Watch it come and watch it go
Flutter, flutter butterfly, flying in the morning sky

Role the Ball Game
(Sing to tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

Roll, roll, roll the ball
Roll it to my friend
Merrily, merrily, merrily,
Roll the ball again

Playtime
This week we played with play dough, kinetic sand, building blocks, a balance beam, a tunnel, and a parachute.

Scarf Song
Everybody will get a scarf to dance around to this song. We repeat the song a couple of times hiding the scarves in various locations (behind our backs, under our carpet circles, wherever the child wants to hide it).

One bright scarf waiting for the wind to blow.
Wiggle it high and wiggle it low,
Shake it fast and shake it slow.
Where did it go?

Ending Song
It’s time to say goodbye to our friends (clap, clap)
It’s time to say goodbye to our friends (clap, clap)
Storytime is done today,
So come again another day
It’s time to say goodbye to our friends (clap clap)

Playtime
This week I set out kinetic sand, building blocks, balance beam, and a parachute.

Like what you see?

The library has many of the books and music we use in our storytimes in the collection, so you can check them out and use them at home. We also get resources from MelCat, our inter-library loan system. For help finding these materials, stop by the Youth Desk.
