Early Literacy Fact of the Week

The Importance of Story Time
Children benefit from hearing another adult read to them, from watching other children get engaged in a story, and from being exposed to a wide variety of authors and writing styles. Your child will also learn some essential school readiness skills, like how to sit still for an extended period of time, how to pay attention to an adult other than his parents, how to take turns.

Songs & Rhymes

Open Song: Clap and Sing Hello
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!

Wave and sing hello
Stomp and sing hello.

Can You . . .
Can you hop, hop, hop like a bunny?
Can you jump, jump, jump like a frog?
Can you walk, walk, walk like a duck?
Can you fly, fly, fly like a bird?
Can you swim, swim, swim like a fish?
Can you reach down to the ground?
And sit down like this?

Clap Your Hands
Clap your hands
Touch your toes
Turn around
Put your finger on your nose
Flap your arms
Reach up high
Wiggle your fingers
And stretch to the sky

Roll, Roll, Sugarbabies
Roll, roll, sugarbabies
Roll, roll, sugarbabiesPushPullClap clap clap
Let’s clap up high
Let’s clap down low
Let’s roll real fast
Let’s roll real slow

Closing Song: We Wave Goodbye Like This
We wave goodbye like this
We wave goodbye like this
We clap our hands for all our friends
We wave goodbye like this
