Opening Song: Clap and Sing Hello
(tune: Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at storytime,
We clap and sing hello!

We wave and sing hello,
We wave and sing hello,
With our friends at storytime,
We wave and sing hello!

We stomp and sing hello,
We stomp and sing hello,
With our friends at storytime,
We sit and say hello!

Fingerplay: Sometimes
Sometimes my hands are at my side,
then behing my back they hide.
Sometimes I wiggle my fingers so.
Shake them fast, shake them slow.
Sometimes my hands go clap, clap, clap.
Then I rest them in my lap.
Now they’re quiet as can be.
Because it’s listening time, you see.

Flannelboard: Five Elephants in the Bathtub
One elephant in the bathtub
Going for a swim.
Knock, knock, (Clap twice with “Knock, Knock.”)
Splash, splash, (Slap knees twice with “Splash, Splash.”)
Come on in! (Motion with both hands to come in.)

Two elephants in the bathtub…etc.
(Until…)

Five elephants in the bathtub
Going for a swim.
Knock, knock,
Splash, splash,
Oh no! They’ve ALL fallen in!

Song: The Seals on the Bus
The seals on the bus go
errp, errp, errp (clap along)
errp, errp, errp (clap along)
errp, errp, errp (clap along)
The seals on the bus go
errp, errp, errp
All around the zoo.

The bears on the bus go
grrr, grrr, grrr (one hand paw)

The monkeys on the bus go
eeeh, eeeh, eeeh (tickle armpits)

The snakes on the bus go
hiss, hiss, hiss (wave hands together)

The tigers on the bus go
roar, roar, roar (two hands paw)

Action Rhyme: An Elephant
An elephant goes like this and that!
(stomp your right foot and then left)

He’s terribly big and terribly fat!
(draw arms out wide)

He has no fingers. He has no toes.
(wiggle fingers and toes)

but goodness gracious, what a nose!
(clasp hands and swing arms like a trunk)

Let’s hear you roar like a lion!
Let’s see you jump like a frog.
Let’s see you snap your jaws like a crocodile.
Let’s hear you howl like a dog.
Pretend you’re an elephant with a big, long trunk.
Pretend you’re a monkey; let’s see you jump, jump, jump.
And now you’re a mouse. Just let me see
How very, very quiet you can be.

Six Little Monkeys
(music by Yosi)
Six little monkeys
swinging in a tree (swing arms)
teasing Mr. Alligator
“can’t catch me, no you can’t catch me” (wag finger)

along came Mr. Alligator quiet as can be
Annnd SNAP! (clap)

Scared one monkey right out of that tree

Closing Rhyme: Tickle the Clouds
Tickle the clouds.
Tickle your toes.
Turn around,
and tickle your nose.
Reach down low,
and jump up high!
Storytime’s over
so wave goodbye.
