Songs, Rhymes & Fingerplays
Fingerplay: Ten Little Pirates
Ten little pirates stood in a row (hold up all ten fingers)
They bowed to their captain just so (lower and raise fingers)
They marched to the left (march hands to left)
And marched to the right (march hands to right)
They shouted yo-ho! (cup hands over mouth)
And gave their captain a fright (act scared, cover mouth with hands)

Movement Song: Going Over the Sea
When I was one I had some fun,
On the day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard the pirate ship
And the captain said to me.

Now you go this way, that way.
Forward, backward.
Over the deep blue sea.

When I was two I joined the crew.
When I was three I got climbed a tree.
When I was four, I swabbed the floor.
When I was five, I learned to dive.

Movement Rhyme: Open Shut Them
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Give a little clap.
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Put them in your lap.
Creep them, creep them up to your chin.
Open your mouth, but do not let them in!
Open, shut them.
Open, shut them.
Put them in your lap.

Movement Song: Sail Your Ship
Sail, sail, sail your ship
Sail your ship with me.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
A pirate’s life for me.

Search, search, search for treasure…
Jump, jump, jump off the ship…
Swim, swim, swim to shore…
Sit, sit, sit on the beach.

Flannelboard: The Pirate Wore a Red Patch
Pirate wore a red patch, red patch, red patch
Pirate wore a red patch all day long…

Movement Song: The Waves on the Sea
(tune: Wheels on the Bus)
The waves on the sea go up and down,
[Raise and lower arms.]
Up and down, up and down,
The waves on the sea go up and down
All day long.
Additional Verses:
The shark in the sea goes snap snap snap..
[Clap your hands.]
The fish in the sea go swish swish swish..
[Swish back and forth.]
The boats in the sea go toot toot toot…
[Make blowing horn motion.]
The people in the sea go swim, swim, swim…

Closing Song: We Wave Goodbye Like This
We wave goodbye like this
We wave goodbye like this
We clap our hands for all our friends
We wave goodbye like this
